“For you shall go out in joy and be led back in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall burst into song, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.” — Isaiah 55:12

Why Obedience, Love, Poverty... in SCW?

AS OF TODAY, i'm replacing the existing categories CandlesInTheDark, FearsHopes&Dreams, TrialsGraces&Choices and VirtuallyOpen, in the SingleCatholicWoman (SCW) weblog with new ones -- Obedience&Trust, Love&SelfControl, Poverty&Simplicity and SimplyOpen, which is OLPS for short! ;-)

Why? Because i'm more and more convinced that religious vows of Obedience, Chastity and Poverty actually reflect God's will in all lives, including secular ones like mine; and i want to focus my energies on the development of these virtues this year and perhaps for the rest of my life.

Over the past few months, i kept having this nagging feeling that that i truly need to simplify my life and not be "blown hither or thither" by whims of fancy. On New Year's eve, when a colleague S. asked me for my resolution, i replied without hesitation: "To remove clutter in my life!" while adding in the silence of my heart, "... whether physical, emotional or spiritual. Yes, minimalist is the way to go!" read more...

i decided to nickname myself 'Clapping Tree' in cyberspace about two years ago. i had been hunting for a job in vain for almost half a year to replace an existing contract that was extremely stressful. Somehow, the prayer readings during that period kept reminding me to be joyful and to trust that God will take care of me. i couldn't, until i attended mass one Sunday and one of the hymns You Shall Go Out With Joy struck me like a thunderbolt. The lyrics were based on Isaiah 55:12:

You shall go out with joy and be led forth with peace,
The mountains and the hills will break forth in song before you.
There'll be shouts of joy and all the trees of the field will clap,
will clap their hands.

And all the trees of the field will clap their hands,
The trees of the field will clap their hands,
The trees of the field will clap their hands,
While you go out with joy.

Shortly after i chose to trust in God completely, two promising job interviews materialised and i was employed by a company that offered me a competitive salary, as well as better working environment and fringe benefits!

This year, i started using this nickname again in an online forum and i find that it is becoming more and more meaningful to me. There're just too much fear, ignorance, negativity, ecetera, within me and the people around me. Adopting this name for my website and writing about 'clapping trees' are extremely useful ways of reminding myself to strive continually to be what i believe God would want us to be -- a network of mutually supporting 'Clapping Trees'. read more...
