Blessed Are The Persecuted

An extract from 'The First Word: The Lesson of Meekness' in Fulton Sheen's book, The Cross and the Beatitudes: Lessons on Love and Forgiveness:

"AT THE BEGINNING of his public life on the Hill of the Beatitudes, Our Lord preached the necessity of zeal: "Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after justice: for they shall have their fill." (Matthew 5:6) At the end of his public life on the Hill of Calvary he practiced that Beatitude as there fell from his lips the cry of apostleship: "I thirst." (John 19:28)

"The world cannot understand either this Beatitude or this Word, for the world by its nature is seated in indifference.... The world hates the zealous, such as Our Lord, because they are a reproach to its mediocrity; it hates also the wicked, such as the wicked, such as the thieves, because they are an annoyance to its self-complacency.... If our passionate quest of God's cause makes us disliked by people, we cannot say we were not warned by him who was hated first. (John 15:18-25) Apostles of Christ, then, will never be popular: Their end is crucifixion."

"Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you." -- Matthew 5:11

HOW LOW can some "small people" stoop? i really don't want to know the answer. But some of these people won't stop attacking my site over the past two, three months. Two of my domains kept disappearing again and again. Then one by one, all my sub-domains failed in one way or another. These are sub-domains that I've never publicized through search engines or external links. Another recurring error message was, "PHP script /usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/fantastico/includes/enc_restrictions.inc.php is protected by SourceGuardian and requires file ixed.lin.4.3.10.pxp. Please read SourceGuardian protected scripts manual."

Finally, after checking my Latest Visitors statistics, a clearer picture of what has happened emerged. Around the period when my domain problems started, i've been getting an usually high number of visits from some people in Gujarat, India and Massachusetts, USA. On Jan 31 morning, someone from Gujarat accessed my site through an ftp account!

Why would someone from India hack into my domain? Paid by someone from the USA or elsewhere? Why? Because I had 'spoken up' so strongly against Singapore having a casino since last November (the month just before the problems started) -- both in my own blog and in the government's feedback portal? If so, i can probably count myself blessed to be thus persecuted in the course of trying to protect the innocent from the ill social effects of gambling.
